I just joined volunteer program to accompany some elder citizens in an aged care. For me, I have taken care of my grandparents when I was in my hometown for a couple of years. After my grandmother passed away, I spent most of my time living with my grandfather who is experiencing dementia until I went back to Australia. With social work background, I always stand in other’s shoes and respect diverse cultures. I love working with people and I have been working with people in all ages since I started my job. In addition, I am good at cooking especially Chinese food as I cooked for my family for a long time. Being a social carer gives me a great opportunity to understand local culture and communicate with vulnerable groups, which is beneficial to my growth and the community development. ^& ^&I organized community programs such as help empty nesters and meals-on-wheel activity. And these activities successfully helped the elder residents to reengage in the community after retirement and improved their well-being. ^&
