Hi, I’m Yunxiang (Jay), a 35-year-old support worker based in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. I’m energetic, optimistic and outgoing, and I enjoy meeting people and building genuine connections. I’ve worked in disability support since 2022, providing personalised one-on-one support at home and in the community. Much of my experience is supporting people with autism and intellectual disability. I’ve also supported a person with Prader–Willi syndrome and a person living with cancer who has undergone an amputation. My work includes community participation, personal care, meal preparation, exercise and developing everyday living skills. I’m observant and attentive to subtle changes in a person’s mood, communication and behaviour. I take time to understand what may be causing distress and adjust my approach accordingly. I have experience supporting people with emotional regulation and behaviours of concern, and I remain calm in challenging situations while following their individual support plans. I have a wide range of interests and particularly enjoy outdoor activities and exploring new places. I also hold an Honours degree in Engineering and a postgraduate degree in Accounting. My varied background has helped me become adaptable, organised and practical in my work. I value respectful relationships and open communication with the people I support, their families and the wider support team. My goal is to help each person build confidence, maintain their independence and enjoy the activities that matter to them.
