I recently made the switch from Customer Service/IT to community services. I always knew and find fulfillment in empowering others in their journey towards independence. I currently work as an Educator for a before and after-school care organization, so I have experience working with children between the age of 5 - 11 years old and love every minute of it. There's nothing better than seeing the journey of a child as they grow and transition into independent young adults. My goal is to become a mentor to others and help people in a postive way whilst still maintain their dignity and choice. I can use my knowledge in IT to help someone who is struggling to use a device or the internet - teaching them the in and outs of a device would potentially eliminate a barrier to social isolation. In the past, I have found the Elderly have had difficulty in using devices and now with the shift to services being online this would only compound the barrier.
