I initially became a carer when looking for babysitting jobs just out of high school, when someone reached out and offered me the opportunity to develop experience caring for those with disabilities (particularly Autism). I was immediately hooked and really enjoyed getting to know all the wonderful people I worked/work with and helping them out in various areas of their lives. I'm really passionate about arts and crafts, discussing movies and their impact, getting out and about on bush walks, and keeping active. I'd say I'm a decent artist and love to draw cartoony things. I have been working as a support worker for about 6 years, with 3 years in aged care. I have focused on supporting children with ASD and assisting them with tasks set out by therapists (to improve areas such as speech and behaviour), but I have also simply driven them to appointments, playgrounds, or any out-of-home activities they participate in. I am a very understanding individual and an active listener. I always try to find solutions for any problems a person may be experiencing, or just be a shoulder to lean on when needed. I also tend to look on the bright side of things to better manage any challenges.
