The caring role provides the ability to provide beneficial services in a direct and transparent way like few other jobs can do. I believe there is great job satisfaction potential. I believe I have the right combination of EQ, common sense critical thinking, humour and work ethic to perform really well in this role. I have now had several months experience as a carer with Like Family and enjoy the role . I have met some interesting people with varied conditions and disabilities and have been able to provide effective support. Prior to this I provided support to my ageing parents who both suffered from serious conditions in the later part of their life. I provided both practical and mental support throughout this trying period in conjunction with other medical professionals Including transport, personal care, shopping and exercise and of course , social interaction . Tennis, racket ball, AFL historical events, geopolitics business and stock markets are a few of my hobbies and passions. I have completed a first aid certificate through St. John’s ambulance.I take periodical refresher courses to maintain these skills. I believe work life in general provides invaluable skill sets and experience to assist in future roles. Many of my past roles have had at least some level of customer service and support involved and many were customer facing. While most of my work experience has been involved with sales/distribution and marketing of consumer goods, I quite recently was employed as a field interviewer for the Australian Bureau of Statistics. This role involved enumerating randomly selected households and conducting social surveys with the residents. These social surveys focused on mental and physical health, social activities, dietary situations and ability of the selected residents to access various resources. Typically, surveys would take 90 mins or more and could involve many optional components and activities above the minimal requirement. Selected households were initially advised of their selection by the Australian Bureau of Statistics via mail correspondence. Field interviewer's workloads were then forwarded to us through specialized computer programs. We would then make initial contact attempts by phone, or in many cases via door knocking the households. Once we made contact, we would determine whether the residents were in scope and then endeavor to complete the survey with the selected residents. Over a two-year period with the A.B.S ,I maintained around 75% completion rate on households that were contactable and in scope to complete the survey.
