About me

I have been a social carer for the last 18 months. It was a natural progression for me at this stage in my life/career. I have worked in government and the corporate sectors as well as for not for profits and been on the Committees and Board of disability and aged care services for various periods throughout my career. I have been told that I have strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to interact and make children and adults from all walks of life, from different cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds and with diverse abilities, feel heard, valued and at their best. In the now last 10 years of my career I have the luxury of being able to pursue roles that I feel have greater purpose and are more personally fulfilling. I I have many interests - both intellectual and practical. I love to read and am finding myself reading more non-fiction at the moment. Have travelled extensively and am interested in the history, culture. food, natural environment and lifestyles of the places I visit. I have always loved art so have dabbled with various art forms too. I have always loved animals so if my client has some that is a plus. I am happy to discover new places and also content just being at home, cooking, reading, gardening, DYI projects etc I have been working with a client that has a range of clients that have various needs including ; social interaction; visiting doctors etc; sorting and organizing; assistance with shopping; light cleaning; travel support and some personal care. I am very comfortable in providing all of these services. I am very mindful of the person-centred approach to care and ensuring that clients continue to feel as empowered as possible. Early in my career I worked as a Speech Pathologist and later as an advocate, and in service delivery in the areas of health, disability, children's services and aged care. So whilst no formal qualifications as in your list I have a lot of experience in understanding the principles and approaches of care under the varying legislations etc.
