I have worked in the career for 40 years. In the early years I worked with preschool children, and then for the last 10 years I have worked with the elderly. The world today can be cruel, if I can help just one person smile and have a better day, it fills me with satisfaction knowing I have contributed to that. I feel that I am, empathetic and a good listener, and believe that these are necessary attributes for this career. In 2013 my mother was diagnosed with dementia, and in helping my father care for her as her disease progressed, it ignited a drive in me to take my caregiving skills from childcare to aged care, so that I could ensure others could receive the care and support that I know my father needed with my mother. Since this, I have endeavoured to provide the high standard of care that I would have appreciated my parents being given Over the years I have found myself in countless situations that have given me varied experiences and transferable skills in helping to maintain clients’ personal hygiene, providing social support, transport to medical appointments, providing wound care and offering an empathetic ear for clients to confide in. I am punctual, well presented, and have my own reliable transport with a clean driving record. Gardening, animals, jigsaw puzzles, dominoes, board games, bingo, football(NRL) nature and doing things outdoors(when it's not to hot)b It's the only industry I have ever been involved with. I travelled and lived overseas for 3 years, in that time I also worked in a caring role.
