Hi, my name is Meredith, I have been a disability care worker for many years with a very wide range of disabilities. I listen to what the client wants and what their goals are. I believe anyone is more capable of than what they think and it is up to a team of caring people to find this path. Over the years I have obtained a number of clients who have me down as a preferred carer and have now requested for me to go private so I can continue their services. My goals in any service is for a smile from the client and a sense of achievement. All of my clients have achieved their goals and all have a much better self awareness and confidence than when I first started the service. The key is to listen and understand what the client really wants. The carers role is to support the client to their wanted goals - within reason. I do not believe in doing everything for a client, I would rather let them do what they can for themselves and when they need assistance, then I will help them and together we will find a way for them to do this activity for themselves. I also do volunteer work with the State Emergency Services in remote areas in welfare type roles and I am a Cub Scout Leader.
