About me

I first became interested in the field of support/social caring when i was 20 and went travelling overseas for 4 months. In that time i visited 15 amazing countries including Hawaii, Mexico, and Europe. I met so many unique and interesting people, all who had beautiful life stories and perspectives which i loved hearing about. I came home feeling so intrigued and inquisitive with the world and how i can make someone's wellbeing better. I decided to study a Cert IV in Mental Health followed by a diploma of Community Services. I feel throughout my time studying, my interest for supporting people and enhancing their lives by identifying their own strengths and uplifting them to achieve great things has only grown over time, i have such a passion for this field of work and am currently studying a Bachelor in Psychology to expand my knowledge and qualifications for the future. I think i will be good at this job not only because of my experience in working in Mental health, but also because of my passion and drive for being a person that someone can go to for help and support, and i truely take great pride in this. I believe through connection and communication, someones quality of life can be improved immensely. One of my passions that i truely embrace in this field of work is the connection between mental health and physical health. I strongly believe that daily movement is vital for wellbeing, and i hope to guide individuals i work with into finding out what movement makes their day better, whether that be walking, swimming, dancing, bike riding etc. Earlier this year i was in hospital for severe pancreatitis and further was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition that impacts my bodies ability to process fats, this means i must feed my body with whole, nutritious foods to keep me alive and healthy as well as exercising daily. This new lifestyle i have adapted to this year has improved my mental health and wellbeing as well as my physical strength, and i hope to implement these values on the people i get to meet every day and meet them where they are with their specific circumstances. My personal hobbies include watching movies, going on long walks and exploring, exercising, travelling and going to the beach in summer. My skills in psychosocial support work grew increasingly when i was chosen to be 1 of 6 Mental Health Trainees at a Community Services organisation ‘Each’ as apart of a reformed workplace development program which provided funding for a 1 year 'Earn and Learn' traineeship. Here i was so grateful to learn adaptive and key industry knowledge and professional skills regarding recovery coaching, capacity building and pyschosocial support to individuals living with mental health illnesses. This job was a transformative experience in my learning and development for the field of Mental Health work as i was exposed to multiple community service based work such as AOD, family violence, homelessness, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, counselling and more. I feel i have so much to offer 'Like Family' and the members in association with its services, due to my empathy and experience in multiple aspects of support work and psychosocial care and recovery. My career background before the traineeship position was hospitality and bartending, which i am grafeful to have that experience due to how i can handle conflicts, problem solving and making quick thinking decisions. I embrace my personality to all clients i work with, and love getting to know each and every individual i meet. I thrive off asking questions and learning things off other people about their interests and hobbies.
