I became interested in social care thanks to my teacher Anne-Marie, who is a carer herself at Like Family. She introduced me to Jenna, and hearing Jenna’s story really inspired me. So many things she described resonated deeply with my own values. Especially the idea of creating real, long-term support relationships built on trust, kindness, and shared moments. What motivates me most is not just the idea of helping someone with tasks, but being part of their life in a meaningful way. I’ve always naturally gravitated toward supporting people around me, friends, family, my grandparents, and even ill relatives. I don’t just show up to help; I try to bring positive energy, humour, genuine listening, and, when asked, thoughtful advice. Caring for people has always come naturally to me, and it honestly brings me joy. I think I’ll be good in this role because I truly enjoy connecting with others. I’m a very social, empathetic, and creative person, and I love finding common interests, sharing stories, and making people feel safe, respected, and understood. The Like Family approach, where you bond through shared passions, conversations, and simple human moment, fits perfectly with who I am. And, my background as an engineer also helps: I’m organised, practical, and good at problem-solving, so I adapt easily to different situations and needs. Combined with my sense of humour and my warm personality, I think I can create supportive and meaningful relationships with the people I care for. I’m a naturally positive, creative and slightly sunny person who loves bringing comfort, connection, and a bit of light-hearted humour into people’s lives. I spend a lot of time painting, taking photos, writing, or playing piano, they’re my favourite ways to slow down, express emotions, and create moments that feel peaceful or joyful. I love sharing these hobbies with others, especially when a small creative moment can brighten someone’s day. I’m also very active and love running and training. It keeps me energised, patient, and balanced — which really helps when supporting people who rely on calm, steady presence. (Plus, I can catch a runaway cat or reach the kettle pretty fast if needed.) Even though I want to work in social care, I still like to use my engineering skills. I enjoy understanding how things work, solving practical problems, and staying organised. It helps me adapt quickly and find simple, clever ways to make someone’s daily routine easier or safer. I’ve travelled quite a lot too, often in a backpacker style, and it taught me to be flexible, open-minded, and to always see the funny side of things (especially when buses don’t show up, or maps send you into a forest). I love storytelling, listening to people, and sharing little travel moments that spark connection or laughter. Overall, I’m someone who cares deeply, who brings creativity and kindness everywhere, and who believes that a warm smile or a bit of humour can make a surprising difference in someone’s day.
