I have worked previously as a psychosocial support worker for Sykee. I am a 4th yeae student in Psychology and therefore as you can imagine I am very passionate about not merely 'helping' people but truly caring for them. My motivation for becoming a social carer was and is linked to my desire to become a psychologist. As I am sure you are well aware - psychologists often hear of mental breakdowns and psychologically impacting episodes/situations, however are rarely witnessing them first hand. Therefore, as part of my motivation to become genuinely caring and helpful psychologist , I believe it is important to grasp a first hand experience of these situations - which based on my previous work with Sykee, is exactly what social carers are involved in (often the first responders and needing to know how to navigate immediate situations). These are I deeply value and therefore would like the opportunity to further learn. I have also seen the genuine light filled impact social carers have in the lives of many struggling and battling with mental illnesses and psychological burdens - and Id be honored to be able to be a part of this amazing work! I am part of a local church and hold about 4 roles which I am very passionate about - currently I am leading a biblical woman based mentor-mentee program which has been my passion for the last 6 months. I am also very passionate about facilitating genuine spaces where "taboo" yet imperative topics are able to be discussed. On a similar note, I have run a podcast with my sister called "can christians even...?" (Which I had to pause due to the mentor-mentee program I am running). I also thoroughly enjoy cooking, baking, gardening, hikes, sports. I have recently taken on a new hobby of perfume making which has been a learning curve. I can be playful but am naturally drawn to genuine and deep conversation. Through previous and current jobs I have learnt that I am able to successfully de-escalate situations quiete naturally and am able to empathise with the others point of view to the extent of making them 'feel' heard and move towards working as a team rather than them (often) feeling attacked or threatened (for example).
