About me

I want to become a social worker because I love to assist people who are vulnerable and in need in our community in practical ways. I completed my bachelor of counselling in 2013 and started volunteering at Burwood Community Welfare Center as a counselor, welfare assessor and case worker in 2016 and I was offered a job as as a family support case worker in 2017 and I supported families with child/children under 13 years old who needed support and a holistic approach. I liked the job more than counselling as I could visit people and provide them with practical assistance based on an assessment with them. Because my clients were traumatized and stressed out, due to many reasons, I also provided them with emotional support by listening and understanding and showed them empathy. I had great relationships with my clients and they trusted me as I was committed, kind, faithful ,reliable and honest. I have thought about what I like to do and where my passion is since I was made redundant in March 2023 due to a system restructure under new leadership. I found myself helping people who are having difficulties: taking them to hospital appointments, providing emotional support, listening to their stories etc since the redundancy. It confirms what job I have to have. When I voluntarily took my friend to a hospital in Liverpool, I met my ex-colleague, Rhonda who is working for Like Family. She recommended that I apply to be a social carer as she believes that I would do the job well, and it is rewarding. She told me about what she is doing for her clients and I am very interested as I believe that I will enjoy the job. I have listening and counselling skills, computer skills (data entry, word processing). I have a passion to support vulnerable women and children in a practical manner. My hobbies are travelling and walking. I am sensitive, cautious and warm. My work ethic is strongly based on integrity and honesty. I have a current WWCC.
