For me, the path towards becoming a Social Carer was less of a career change and more of a natural progression. I am deeply driven by a deep desire to connect with people on a more holistic, person-centred level. Being an Enrolled Nurse provided me with a solid practical foundation, which taught me the importance of clinical observation, managing complex health needs, adaptability and critical thinking. However, I felt the clinical environment created a barrier to truly knowing the person beyond their medical chart. I found myself enjoying the scarce time I was able to spend creating an emotional connection with the individuals and realised that it was my passion. I decided then that I wanted to move from physically treating symptoms to addressing the bigger picture, which includes the social, emotional, and systemic factors that impact a person's quality of life and overall well-being. It fueled my passion, leading me to start studying social work. I believe I will excel as a Social Carer due to my uniquely well-rounded set of real-world experiences. My experience in nursing means I am highly capable of spotting clinical changes, invaluable for ensuring client safety, and I have the practical skills to manage complex needs. Caring for my own grandmother taught me the deep, patient empathy required for dignity focused care, being a carer isn't just a job for me. Now, my social work studies are equipping me to be a strong advocate for the individuals I care for. Social Justice and Advocacy: My deepest passion lies in advocating for those whose voices are often unheard. This drives my involvement with Women's Rights and LGBTQIA+ Rights. I am passionate about how creativity and structured play allow people to connect and explore with the world. This is something I personally experience through playing Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). I enjoy spin-finishing, camping and the outdoors, arts and crafts, soccer, baking/ cooking and board games.
