About
I love working with people. My greatest joy is learning more about people and understanding how they see the world! My two older sisters have influenced me a lot and I credit them for my compassion and patience. Working with people living with disabilities is a way for me to engage with my community and make meaningful relationships with new people. I have excellent communication skills both verbal and written. I find it very easy to talk to different people but especially enjoy listening to others speak about their passions and ideas. I have a strong emotional intelligence and can pick up on feelings of discomfort or distress quickly. This helps me to detect when people may need space or alternatively need someone to talk to about problems/negative emotions they're experiencing. I’m easy going and very flexible with activities. I can enjoy myself doing anything, provided those I’m with are having a good time. I consider myself to be outgoing, happy, and friendly. I aim to make people feel as comfortable as possible when they are around me so that they can express their true selves and true emotions freely and without fear of judgement. I'm passionate about human rights and social equality. My personal life as well as studies, in high school & currently at University, have lead to a deep interest in LGBTQI+ rights, feminist movements, racial equality, and the rights of people living with disability. I try to support these movements in any way I can. I live my life putting great importance on respecting all people equally and acknowledging/addressing the difficulties that others face in today's society. Ultimately, I really want to help my community feel inclusive and connected. I thrive working closely with others which is why becoming a disability support care worker was an obvious choice for me. My biggest passions are film and writing. I really enjoy poetry and music lyrics as well as fantasy fiction. I would love to work with someone trying to develop their writing skills by putting together any kind of writing with them (a story, poetry, song lyrics, etc.). I am also competent with other forms of work/learning including any academic tasks or basic skills-based learning. I have some experience with screen and stage acting. I've performed in front of a number of live audiences and would love to help others reach those goals. I understand the value of confidence and support when accessing these activities which I would love to help provide others with if they were interested in those areas. I really enjoy puzzles/boardgames/video games as well as getting outdoors for some exercise. I play netball and tennis recreationally and am an avid fan of the AFL and basketball. I have experience in hiking and camping and love getting out to see new areas through walking or driving. I also love attending live music events whether they involve dancing, singing or just sitting and appreciating great music. I currently live out of home and have plenty of experience with household duties. I am more than happy to assist with any tasks around the house or day-to-day tasks in the community.
