My name is Carmel & I have worked as a Social Carer for 10+ years. Like many Carers, I had a personal experience, I had a family member with Frontal Temporal Dementia & Parkinson’s Disease & caring for them made me realise that this was my absolute passion: caring for others & making their lives better. It is the most rewarding work I have ever done because I know I can bring happiness & joy to my clients every day. My favourite clients are our sweet elderly citizens & those with disabilities. I think the best carers are those that genuinely care for their clients & become a part of the care team that work together closely to ensure that our Clients receive the absolute best care. But it doesn’t stop there, you also have to have GREAT COMMUNICATION skills as you are coming into contact with so many other people like the client’s family, external stakeholders, the office etc. I believe this is one of my strengths as I know the importance of this. The other qualities I have are compassion, patience & understanding. And the last thing that makes me a great carer is that I have a big smile & a positive outlook. I know that if I walk into my client’s house with a big smile & a warm welcome, it can make their day & sets the tone for a wonderful day! My passions are my family, friends & the outdoors. My hobbies are reading, walking & music. My skills are in individual care & nursing. If there is anything I don’t understand, I will read about it so I can be fully informed & provide the highest level of care for my Client. I absolutely love being a carer! I work with a big heart & passion & absolutely adore my clients. I am reliable, honest & punctual. That’s why being a carer is so important -we play a big part in helping our Clients live happier lives & that is everything to me!
