I have had 33 years working as a policeman in diverse areas. I progressed through the ranks and was the manager of one the busiest highway patrol offices in the state. This had a heavy involvement with road trauma, supporting victims and participating in community safety groups. I held roles in migrant driver education and the Greater Dandenong Road Safety Committee. My career was one of constant communication with people. Since leaving policing,I have been a casual motorcycle instructor. I have a real passion for motorcycling but particularly road safety. My road policing career that incorporated duty as a police motorcyclist has given me a unique position to speak with authority on skills and safety. My community involvement has been as a volunteer with Mornington Peninsula L2P program. This involves volunteering time to accompany young people with disadvantage to attain their requisite 120 hours to qualify for licence testing. I have provided many hundreds of hours in this field. I have been a Peninsula Home Hospice (PHH) volunteer since February 2019. PHH provides holistic care to members of the community with life limiting illnesses. The care provided is via professionals such as doctors, nurses, counsellors etc. My role is to provide social support to those terminally ill and give respite to their primary carers. I have had the pleasure of spending time with ten PHH clients in their last days and weeks. I will continue in this role for as long as I physically can. (I highly recommend it to anyone!) Going for drives or even taking those capable for motorcycle rides. Push bike rides along trails and tracks throughout the Mornington Peninsula and southern metropolitan areas. Philosophical discussions are of keen interest to me. I am well read with an above average literacy standard. Discussion around book titles and engagement in discussions around general and an individuals history, fascinate me. I have spent hundreds of hours with folks within the PHH sphere and received glowing feedback from those clients and their families. It is spending time with socially isolated people of advanced years, willing to talk of their lives where my absolute passion rests.
