I have been exposed to the disability community quite often through charity events over the last 10 years. This experience has left a lasting impression on me, especially when I saw their eyes sparkle with happiness and their faces light up as a sign of gratitude. I always thought I could do something in this field in the future; however, I was working full-time, so becoming a social worker was not on my list at the time. Two months ago, I found myself unemployed. While having coffee with a friend, she suddenly said, “I know what type of job would suit you—it’s as a support worker! It’s incredibly rewarding and would be perfect fit for someone like you who is so giving.” I replied, “Yes, I’ve thought about it, but where do I begin?” She smiled and suggested, “How about you let the universe guide you toward your calling?” And I listened. Two weeks after our catch-up, I enrolled in an Individual Support course, which I will complete in June 2025. Although I am new to this field, I have already started reading articles and watching videos on assisting individuals with disabilities. I believe I would make a good social worker because I am compassionate and empathetic, always striving to put myself in others' shoes. I am also a good listener and approach situations without judgment. Raised in a multicultural background, I am adaptable and appreciate diverse perspectives. Some people may be seen as “less than perfect” or labelled as having disabilities in this material world, but their desire to be treated with dignity and love is no different from that of people like you and me. While we have the ability to give, we should remember to shine like a candle—ensuring that our light doesn’t go out when we pass and sharing our brilliance with the world. Hobbies and Skills: Pilates instruction Cooking Baking Reading (Audiobooks) Movies Travelling Board games Aromatherapy I am a certified Pilates instructor, proficient in teaching both individuals and groups, whether on the mat or using apparatus. In the past, I have taught at my office upon request. This form of exercise is incredibly beneficial for everyone, as it teaches you how to 'use' your body by enhancing balance and cognitive responses, ultimately helping to prevent injuries. In addition to my work, I enjoy a variety of hobbies, including cooking and baking, which allow me to explore different cuisines; listening to audiobooks and watching movies, traveling to experience new cultures; playing board games and practicing aromatherapy for wellness and relaxation. I also possess a basic knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which complements my understanding of holistic health.
