About

I became a foster carer 10 years ago and it changed me, made me less selfish, more caring and empathetic towards others who have had a bad start in life. It has impacted me significantly. Recently, I spent several months living with elderly friends interstate, I didn't expect to enjoy spending time with them as much as I did, I just knew I had to help where I could as they didn't have anyone who could provide them with what they needed. Despite the challenges, it was really rewarding to assist them with everyday activities that they struggled with, whether it was just driving them to an appointment or helping them at the library navigate the computer system, or the self-serve checkout at the grocery store. It's given me a lot in return, the more I care, the more I want to care. Being an administrator I know my way around a computer and the internet, I am not a whiz, but can usually work it out, I therefore can help individuals with IT skills and navigating online systems, or at the shops, library, college or on school projects. I am happy to advocate for those who may not be able to on their own. I previously worked for an NDIS participant, assisting with daily tasks, running errands, finding out information and helping out with their pets. A number of years ago I worked as a teachers aide for children in K-Yr 7. Some with additional needs requiring one-on-one help and have supervised children during activities being their support person.
