I've been a youth & children's worker and primary school teacher for over 30 years. My life vocation has been about caring for people. Whether it's for young people or children and their families, I'm passionate about helping to meet their social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs. I believe I have excellent emotional intelligence, communication and organisational competencies that are assets to serving the needs of children, adolescence and adults. I am a patient listener, and I am energised by engaging with and helping others. I believe these are some of the important pre-requisites of a being a Social Carer. In addition to serving the community as a schoolteacher I would like to extend that passion to supporting members of the broader community as a Social Carer. I'm a father of four; three young adults and an early teenager. They all live at home, creating a busy, and at times, complex family life. Together with my wife of 30 years, I'm committed to supporting them with their domestic, emotional and physical needs. I'm a practical person and like to maintain our family home and garden myself whenever possible. I'm connected to a local, independent church where I contribute to the pastoral care of that community. I'm a guitarist and contribute to the music worship group within that community. I like to road cycle or go for rigorous walks most weekends. I have an interest in current, local and world affairs and subscribe to various news and associated commentary media outlets. Although born in Australia, I spent my formative years in Glasgow, Scotland. My Scottish accent is often a point of interest when meeting people for the first time.
