About
I am passionate about helping people and by joining Like Family, I have found a way to direct this passion to those most in need of help. With my extensive life experience of caring for others I feel it has equipped me with the necessary skills and sensitivities required when supporting others. Caring for my mother with Alzheimer's (primary live in carer), my father who became completely blind due to a car accident when I was only 8 years old, and now my child with ADHD has given me invaluable skills in patience, empathy, and adaptability. More than that, I have always had a deep desire to help wherever I can, and social care and support roles feels like the perfect way to channel that into making a meaningful difference in people's lives. After my family, I am most passionate about the environment and the impact we have on the planet. I have a strong love for animals both native and domestic.I love spending time outdoors exercising, swimming laps in the ocean pools, or going for long walks. Movement is a big part of my life, both personally and professionally—I am a dedicated dance teacher and run my own physical culture club (not for profit). I take great pride in helping my students reach their full potential and love everything about dance, from technique to expression. I also love choreography, I am on the chorey team for the 9-12s age group fro APDA (Australian Physie and Dance) which means I am responsible for creating chorey for the syllabus. I also am a Judge for APDA and have judged at a National level for teams and individual Championship. I enjoy being creative through art and photography. Beyond my creative and active pursuits, I have extensive computer skills on both Macs and PCs, having previously worked in IT as a network engineer and in support roles. I feel like I am a graduate in the higher education of life as I have experienced a lot of personal loss (my brother, my first baby, both parents by the time I was 43). In 2013 My very good friend Sam Bloom became paralysed from a tragic accident, I was one of only two friends that she would let come, on a regular basis, to visit her in her long hospital stay. I would visit Sam at least weekly but often more as I could see she was in a dark place mentally and I just wanted to be there for her. I feel sometimes that my calling in life is to help others as this is when I feel most like I am contributing something of value and gives my life purpose. My mum was an amazing giver in life, an absolute pillar of her community, I am only a patch on my mum but i feel like she has instilled this trait in me.
