About
I want to become a social worker because I care deeply about elderly people who often experience loneliness and helplessness. I would like the opportunity to support the elderly by keeping them company, helping with household tasks, and assisting them with every day needs such as doctors' appointments and shopping. My motivation comes from my own experience with my elderly mother in Greece. It saddened me when my mother told me how lonely she sometimes felt, and how grateful she was when someone from the church would visit her, help around the house, or drive her where she needed to go. Seeing how much those small acts of kindness meant to her inspired me to help other elderly people in the same way. In my free time I enjoy reading, gardening, homemaking, sewing and op-shopping. I also enjoy walking which helps me to relax, clear my mind, and stay active. Travelling is also a passion of mine, and I love visiting museums, art galleries, because I find history, culture and art very interesting and inspiring. An interesting fact about me is that I am bilingual, and that I already make meals for my neighbours (when in need), and that I have been a carer on and off for my friends and relatives for decades.
