I have been a freelancer/ contractor for most of my adult life. During this time I have a long history of working in jobs that empower marginalised people. I have always found this work to be very satisfying. I have more capacity now that my children are teenagers and some of the things that I used to do to make a living no longer interest me. I am attracted to the flexibility of support work as I still have some other part time work responsibilities that I am passionate about. I have worked one on one with people of all ages and cultures and abilities, from men and women who have just got out of prison to children in remote aboriginal communities. I have also worked with elders who are experiencing isolation and/or dementia. Through all of this work it has been the human connections that are most memorable, that and the feedback that I have helped change lives for the better. I know what its like to feel isolated and Im at home helping people to find the strength in themselves to live their best lives. Im passionate about music. I play ukelele in a trio, playing songs from the 1930s to 1960s. I write and I sing. I like making and fixing things, finding out how they work. I experiment with electronics and build sound making devices. I am interested in politics and world affairs and value critical thought and discussion. I enjoy researching anything that I know nothing about. I value truth. I have a history of acting and theatre and enjoy good theatre and film. I love art that is thoughtful and provoking. I love the Australian bush and like getting out into it. Im passionate about conservation and caring for our planet, (though wouldn't describe myself as a zealot). I like reading. I enjoy philosophising and I like socialising with people who are funny and critically thoughtful. Comedy, humour, finding the laugh or funny side is probably one of my strongest qualities. I like laughing with people and making them laugh. Not a sports fan. Politically mid left leaning. More swayed toward science than religion. Agnostic more than atheist. Ive raised a couple of kids which has gifted me with patience.
