About
I was motivated to become a Social Carer because I have a strong interest in human behaviour, wellbeing, and community connection. Through my postgraduate psychology studies I have learned how powerful supportive relationships can be, especially for people experiencing loneliness or life challenges. I want to contribute in a meaningful, practical way while I continue my academic training, and volunteering feels like the right step. I believe I will be good in this role because I am warm, reliable, and genuinely interested in people. I listen well, I communicate clearly, and I approach others with empathy and respect. I have also managed my own business for many years, which has given me strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust quickly. Combined with my psychology studies, I feel well equipped to support clients in a thoughtful and compassionate way. My passions include holistic health, plant based cooking, and wellness, which grew from my studies in nutrition and coaching. I am also deeply interested in psychology, especially understanding what motivates people and how we can support wellbeing through connection. A big part of my life is spending time with my horse. I was once a competitive equestrian and an enthusiastic skier, although now I mostly enjoy quieter, restorative activities. In terms of skills, I bring strong communication, empathy, and emotional intelligence from both my studies and many years of self-employment. I am reliable, curious, and genuinely enjoy listening to and supporting others. Something that may be useful to know is that I have had meaningful informal experience supporting young adults who were dealing with complex mental health challenges. Two women I employed lived with me for periods of time when they were struggling, and I offered them stability, structure, and consistent emotional support. Both were experiencing significant anxiety, distress, and difficulties with daily functioning, and I was able to help them navigate that with care and patience. We remain close today, which I think speaks to the trust, safety, and connection we built. That experience shaped my interest in community care and strengthened my belief in the difference that steady, compassionate support can make.
