My journey in mental health advocacy and support began long before my professional career. Growing up in an environment deeply affected by mental health challenges (mainly CPTSD, bipolar, depression, and schizophrenia) and witnessing those who struggled be deprived of integrity, compassion, quality care, community, and respect, I developed a profound understanding and empathy for individuals navigating the vulnerabilities of mental illness and high-needs disability. This personal experience has fueled my passion for mental health support, wellness, personal development, and human rights advocacy, shaping my commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of those I connect with personally and professionally. I am big on personal development and have explored my ongoing passion for psychology in many different ways throughout the years, most recently enrolling in a BSc of Psychology commencing late 2025. In my free time, I enjoy staying active through running, hikes, dance classes, and yoga. My creative side comes out best through writing, my most recent passion project getting published as a novel in early 2024 with a second novel currently underway. I myself am neurodivergent and have deep empathy for those whose brain operates in this way. I have been awarded throughout my career for my outstanding communication skills - both verbal and written – and my ability to problem solve and resolve conflict in a compassionate, safe, and polite manner. Fitness has been integrated into my professional and personal lives for as long as I can remember, and I always maintain the reasonable degree of physical fitness necessary for this line of work. I am confident in my ability to support companionship and social activities, skill acquisition, exercise, transport and getting around, and assistance with cooking/meal prep, cleaning, gardening, errands, and appointments. My professional development and education paths demonstrate my commitment to personal development and desire to be a trailblazer; to create the path that’s most authentic to me, my strengths, and my passions. I hold a Mastery Method Certified Coach certification from the Institute for Coaching Mastery, emphasizing a holistic approach to behaviour change through a 3-stage model called The Mastery Method; a person-centred model created by world-renowned, licensed somatic psychotherapist Alyssa Nobriga. To receive certification, I had to complete and document 80 hours of counselling a diverse clientele and submit recordings of sessions to a course mentor for review of competency and efficacy. I also hold certification in TriggerMapping, which emphasizes high-level customer service through a thorough understanding of human psychology and how that impacts one’s success and behavior, specifically in relation to healthy lifestyle changes. I also hold a Personal Fitness Trainer diploma from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and I am a certified nutritionist through Mac Nutrition University, equipped with the knowledge and skills to support individuals in customizing a healthy lifestyle for themselves and enhancing their overall well-being. My lifelong commitment to personal and professional development and passion for mental health has led me to enrol in a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), commencing in late 2025. Despite most of my career and professional development happening prior to my relocation from Canada to Australia, you may find that my experiences with mental health, my commitment to ongoing professional development and education in the realm of mental health and wellness, and my professional background in counselling, mentoring, and personal training, more than satisfies the requirements for a competent Support Worker, all equipping me with the high level of resilience, empathy, patience, friendliness, integrity, autonomy, teamwork, organization, communication, and passion to enhance others’ lives that is integral in this role. I’m confident that my background uniquely positions me to make a meaningful contribution to the Like Family Team.
