I wanted to become a Social Carer because i am transitioning from a corporate role which required a lot of travel to a more healthy lifestyle where I can also focus on connection with friends, family and things I love. I have done this type of work at multiple stages of my life - in my 20s, 30s, and now in my 50s. I just finished caring for a relative who had long term Parkinson's and dementia. I enjoy getting to know and understand people from different walks of life. I love exploring creativity and work with textiles and resin. I spend a lot of time outdoors, reading, listening to and discovering new music. I try and keep abreast of current events, different festivals, markets and activities. I adopted and raised five children who are now adults and am therefore passionate and compassionate about social issues, particularly where there are gaps. I have travelled a lot and lived in several different countries so i feel fairly knowledgeable about the world and different cultures and religions and also different ways of being. The different paces that we all work at, the diverse things that we like, and value. I feel I am non judgemental and continue to work on my biases. I have been a mediator, facilitator, trainer and coach. I have travelled the world with this profession working in diverse cultures and situations. I am resilient, proactive and reliable. I am also fun and adventurous and willing to try new things.
