About
There is nothing I love more than meeting, helping and coming to understand people. This mentality is complimented by my friendly, approachable and open demeanour. Striving for a genuine connection is not only my highest priority but also something I feel confident and competent in. Most importantly, I love to laugh and have fun. I have extensive experience as a Youth Worker within a high school and as a Family Support worker in Child Protective Services. I am currently studying for a Bachelor of Social Work at UOW. Going through my third year, I have been taught and introduced to varying perspectives and needs within the community. By interacting in both my studies and different work sectors, my professional skills are well developed, making me an effective and genuine social carer. For example, I have built a strong sense of working with, rather than working for individuals and families. The wants and needs of the service user will always be the centre of my work with particular consideration on power dynamics and making sure they are in charge and have control. A positive relationship between myself and my client is the foundation of all my work. Reflecting on my own strengths and experiences, I find I am especially well developed in my people skills, building good rapport, working with children, adapting to different situations and just an overall sense of patience and openness toward people. Understanding the values I hold as a social worker and converting them into those of a carer, my founding values of respect for people, ethical and professional integrity and a sense of humility will bring a sense of confidence when questioning my character as a carer. I am a very social person and I love to go out and explore. I love hiking, singing, going to the gym, flying yoga, going out eating yummy food, going to trivia nights, reading, animals, arts and crafts, gaming on my ps4, listening to music or audiobooks, having deep and meaningful conversations, watching shows and movies, cooking and an overall love of learning and studying new things. With the consideration of my personal behaviours combined with my continued studies, I know I will be a great Social Carer.
