I have always had an interest in helping people, straight from school I worked in childcare in a centre and obtained a Certificate 3 in childrens services. From here I then worked in sales and customer service along with wanting to travel as much as possible as I felt curious about the world. When the world stopped from COVID-19, I decided to undertake some additional study and began my Bachelors in Public Health which I have been doing part-time and due to graduate the end of 2025. I have a passion for supporting the mental health epidemic that is going on particularly with adolescents. For the past year I was working in a cafe which employed people with special needs and limitations. Since working here I gained on the job experience working with a large variety of individuals and I loved it! My biggest achievement here was facilitating a volunteer roster for the cafe where people in the community could come and spend some time out in public to socialise, upskill and challenge their limitations. I did this by arranging a time for people who had been struggling with their mental health, needed socialisation or wanted to give back with their free time. The cafe attracted people from many walks of life which became my regular customers and we dealt with things like homelessness, mental and physical health disorders as well as other social issues like refugees and domestic violence issues. Unfortunately my living situation had to change and I live too far from this location so I am looking to do some more support work. I think I would be good at it because I my compassionate and empathetic nature paired with my level of organisation and leadership skills allowed me to thrive in this position. I also did a short 3 month stint doing support work for a man in his 50s who contracted Meningitis. He had a series of strokes leaving him partially blind, needing assistance with showering, medication and taking him to physio 2x a week as he required a walking frame. I helped him in the morning 4 times a week to get ready for the day (shower, breakfast, medication, tidy the house, washing) as he was a father of two young children and his wife was a full-time worker. I also would stay around some mornings and we would chat as I noticed he was suffering depression and was feeling isolated being at home all day by himself. I would like to gain some more experience in this field alongside my studies. For enjoyment I enjoy keeping fit and healthy, exploring new places and going to see any kind of show in the arts (music/theatre) I have always been approached for supervisory or management positions for every job I have ever had I think this shows my trustworthiness, responsibility and leadership capabilities. I always take pride in my work and have always look to improve my skill set. Alongside this I like to take a person centered approach to my communication style by active listening, developing trust with a side of playfulness.
