I am someone who likes to make the best of every situation, my faith and positive attitude have got me though many tough challenges in my life and have shown me that any situation can be turned around with the right attitude and support. I think my positive outlook in life would make me a great social carer as in my darkest moments what helped me most was having someone with a positive attitude around who kept hope alive that everything would work out eventually and I would like to be that person for someone else. I am currently studying a bachelor of disability and community inclusion which has taught me the importance of client-centred care and self advocacy. I think an understanding of these two concepts are central to being a great social carer as a carers role is to support the clients goals and assisting the client to set goals around their interests and this can only be done if the client is encouraged to advocate their wants and needs. My degree has also taught me about Augmentative and Alternative devices and given me knowledge on how to be an effective communication partner to someone with complex communication needs. I have been in situations where I wasn’t given the opportunity to make my own decisions and speak for myself. Thought those experiences I grew to understand just how detrimental self-expression is to a persons wellbeing and will do what I can to ensure the person I am supporting feels their ideas, opinions and decisions are valued and are what matter most to me as their social carer. I am a well-rounded, very organised and resourceful person and I think those qualities would also make me a great social carer I am very skilled at organising. I can organise their various tasks for example, by making a studying schedule to complete assignments on time or spacing out chores on a calendar so they are not overwhelming. I can also organise belongings and am very handy with chores in general. In my free time I like to bake, crotchet and go thrifting. I also like to go on spontaneous adventures at times to de stress. I am a practising Muslim and can accompany you to the mosque if you are too :)
