Hello there, I'm Kui Noi, a 4th-year student in Speech Pathology. I've volunteered in Singapore, Australia, Cambodia, and China with children and young adults. I've also worked with the elderly through my clinical placements at the aged care home. Personally, I like to be cheerful and forward-looking in life simply because life is too short for unhappiness. I'm not saying the effort/choice to be consciously happy is an easy choice, but it's a much less painful option that I've chosen. All I did to be happy was to let go of things I couldn't control and made the best of the available options and worked around them. While I've worked with people of various age groups, I've always enjoyed my experience across the groups equally because I was constantly learning new things about them and myself from different groups of people. With young children, I find their innocence most endearing. With young adults, I look at their courage and dreams as a reflection in the mirror, at times as a constant self-reminder. With every elderly I've come across thus far, they were all my teacher in so many ways. Everyone had a story of their own to share with me, some with wisdom and some with pain. And all these experiences made me who I am today. So while I may not have perfect IQ scores, I would say I have a reasonable amount of empathy, interpersonal skills and common sense that has gotten me this far in my life. And hopefully, I'd be able to share more of myself and my stories with you in person in time to come!
