Hi, my name is Jeffrey. I’m currently a Product Manager at a successful software company. Before this, I worked as a Mechanical Engineer on various train-related projects across the country. I consider myself a conscientious individual with a well-balanced lifestyle. I believe in working hard, but I also make time for an active life outside of work. I’m passionate about sports, especially basketball and soccer, and I love spending time outdoors. Hiking and outdoor photography are two of my favorite activities. Traveling is another passion of mine; whether exploring overseas or taking road trips across Australia, I cherish the opportunity to experience new places and cultures. Despite my love for the outdoors, I also enjoy staying in to play video games and watch movies from time to time. I’m a great companion if you’re looking for someone to hang out with and share activities you enjoy. Additionally, I bring a broad skill set that I’m eager to teach, whether it’s computer skills, math, or any academic challenges you might be facing. I’m more than happy to offer support and guidance. I first learned about Like Family at a career fair I attended with my sister, who has a mild intellectual disability. I was impressed by their community work and felt compelled to get involved. My goal is to support not only individuals with disabilities like my sister but anyone in need. I believe I’d excel as a support worker because I genuinely care about people and am dedicated to making the world a better place. For example, I previously volunteered with the Australian Chinese Community Association, assisting elderly individuals in the Chinese community who faced language barriers and physical disabilities. Many lived independently or in nursing homes and needed help or companionship. I volunteered to support them and improve their quality of life. I also volunteered at an orphanage in Cebu, Philippines, where I worked with children who had been abandoned or rescued from abusive situations. This experience was eye-opening and transformative for me. With four years of experience as a primary school tutor, I find joy in interacting with children and helping those in challenging circumstances. My diverse experiences with people of all ages have equipped me to connect with others and make them feel comfortable. I’m excited about the opportunity to enrich more lives as a support worker. This exposure to different cultures and living conditions greatly enhanced my cultural understanding and sensitivity. Visiting less developed countries like Indonesia and the Philippines inspired me to work harder and contribute to those in need, which motivated my decision to volunteer in the Philippines and apply to Like Family.
