About

Hi there! My name is Deanne or Dee for short. I have been living in the Penrith area for about 30 years. I have many years experience in working with people with disabilities and complex mental health issues. I have a genuine interest in helping people to live their best possible lives both in my working and private life. Being a social carer is a role that I take very seriously and would like to join you on your journey forward in life. Helping people helps me as it gives me great satisfaction. If I can make just a small difference to the lives of those living with disabilities and/or mental health issues then I would feel like my contribution to society is of value. I'm also fun and like to have a laugh! If you have any goals that you'd like to achieve then we can work on a plan together to do our best to achieve those goals. I want to walk beside you on your journey. I have excellent communication skills and will talk to you and your family/support person about how we are going to work together. I enjoy being physically active and in nature. I have a 12 year old toy poodle called Marley and I just love dogs. Marley gets walked almost every day. I'm happy to be around and help with any pets, however, I am allergic to some breed of cats. Being active is very important to me as it not only helps me to keep in shape but also it helps with my mental health. I also do a fair amount of rock n roll dancing which is so much fun! I can help you with many things such as (but not limited to): Domestic assistance, meal preparation, help with paperwork and forms, organising, creating schedules/plans, studying, exercise, helping with pets, music appreciation, connecting socially, building networks, organising outings, problem solving, building confidence and of course having a good old fashioned conversation. I have a lot of life experience in mental health, raising children, running a household, struggling through challenging situations, grief and growing independence. I have qualifications in Community Services (Diploma), Mental Health First Aid, Accidental Counselling, Suicide Prevention, Administration and various other studies mostly around mental health. I've also worked as an Employment Adviser for a Disability Employment Service helping people with disabilities to become independent through gaining employment. Being a very open minded lady will help me to connect with you. If there's something that you need to do or would like to do just ask. I will do my very best to help you. You should also know that I am a hard worker and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I'm reliable and flexible as well. Oh and I absolutely love fashion, particularly from the 1950's and 60's. I also love fancy dress! I find that dressing up helps me feel better. I dress up every day even if I'm just going to the supermarket. I often get strangers coming up to me when I'm out to compliment me on my style. It's a great opportunity to make conversation and I thoroughly enjoy taking the time to speak with them. It's amazing how something as small as a smile or a "you look lovely today" can do for a person. I'm looking forward to meeting you and hopefully we will be working together soon. In any case, even if we do not get to meet, I'd like to wish you good luck with your journey. Always remember that there are people out there that care. You just have to find them :)
