Hi, my name is Beth, I have worked in the aged care industry for over 8 years in the role of Diversional Therapist or Recreational Activities Offer. I enjoy working with individuals and groups of people who require support and are otherwise unable to pursue their own leisure or interests and I love to assist them in remaining engaged and interested in previously enjoyed activities or introducing or encouraging them to try new things. I like to help guide people and be companionable while allowing them to remain autonomous and make their own decisions. I feel that I am creative and resourceful and I have personally made and implemented many new activities and ideas at the positions in which I’ve worked. I gain a great rapport with clients and I am professional in my behaviour and conduct. Most of all I choose to work in the field of leisure to participate in providing some fun in people’s lives. I feel that the benefits of engaging in activities that stimulate socialisation, cognitive and physical function as well as enjoyment are innumerable and to assist someone to experience these benefits outside of a residential care home would allow me to extend my passion. I consider myself a shy person and have experienced difficulty trying new things and venturing into unfamiliar situations at times. Recently I have joined new groups to learn new skills and to improve my own socialisation. I joined a trivia group that allows me to engage with new people and make new friends as well as test my knowledge, contribute to a joint goal and learn some new facts. I also started to score for my husband’s baseball team which again allowed me to learn new skills and rules, meet and interact with different people and engage in an outdoor activity. Both these activities provide me with a sense of commitment and something to look forward to each week other than personal or work commitments whilst also providing a sense of achievement and one of personal fulfillment. Something else that I am very excited and proud of would be my recent marriage and our holiday touring 10 countries. We saw parts of the world we had never seen before and we made sure to make the most of every hour and make solid memories in the process. A favourite quote of mine is: Not necessarily a quote but words I guide myself by: No one knows everything, but everyone knows something.
