About

I was motivated to become a social carer as I have discovered my passion and love for helping people and I want to begin a career where I feel I have the opportunity to make a real difference in people's lives. I find helping other people to be really fulfilling, I think I discovered this after being put in a position of taking care of my mother for the last few years after she was diagnosed with bowel cancer. I also have assisted in taking care of my uncle who has cerebral palsy and a variety of other physical and intellectual disabilities. I believe that the skills and compassion I've learnt from taking on these roles have taught me so much about caring for other people and allows me to demonstrate the patient and nurturing nature to the fullest extent. I believe i'd be good in a carer role not only because of my naturally sensitive and caring nature but also because of my experience and upbringing consistently around a variety of different disabilities and those requiring some extra care, so I feel that I am fairly familiar and have the necessary skills to be able to provide the best care to suit clients needs. Some of my hobbies include art, such as drawing and painting. I love spending time outside with outdoor hobbies such as paddleboarding, going to the beach/ swimming, going on walks/ hikes, and photography. I also absolutely love being around/ caring for animals. While caring for family members I have learnt many skills which I believe would be relevant to this role. Some of the things I have assisted in include personal hygiene tasks, transport to and from medical appointments, errands etc, helped with mobility tasks eg. getting in and out of a wheelchair, managed tasks and errands including shopping or banking, performed housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, cooking/ preparing food as well as provided consistent emotional support.
