About

From the age of 13, I started caring for others in the form of babysitting. Eventually, that evolved into regular nannying jobs for local families. Over the years, I've cared for at least 25 different children (I've lost count!), of all ages from toddler to late teens. Some of these children are neurodivergent so I have experience in caring for, and connecting with, individuals who experience the world in a unique way, and understanding some of the challenges they may face. I have also experience with intellectual disability having spent lots of time with one of my extended family members. She taught me a lot about not only caring for someone with a disability, but being able to connect with them, listen and learn about them as a human being. My time spent with her was always time well spent, even if the activities we did together weren't really my "thing", I always thoroughly enjoyed them! Additionally, my grandfather suffered a stroke and developed dementia in his later years, and my grandmother was legally blind. I loved to spend time with them both, and have missed them greatly since they passed. As of a few weeks ago, I have been living alone and really miss having someone to take care of and spend time with. Seeing the opportunity at Like Family stood out to me because it's exactly the kind of "work" I would love to do! My main interests include being in nature, animals (I have a dog, horse, and two cats), cooking (specifically yummy plant-based meals), and spending quality time even if it simply involves sitting and talking/listening/reading. I would also love to offer assistance with housework, particularly gardening, which is an activity I truly love and have skills in! Cooking, cleaning, washing etc. are also activities I am more than happy to do, as I am quite house proud and love to create a nice clean space to live in. I have a car so can go just about anywhere in Sydney on adventures! That could involve recreational activities such as bowling, going to the zoo, aquarium, museum etc. It's always fun to get out and about and enjoy different activities I wouldn't otherwise do on my own. But my real love is to spend time outdoors in nature and I know some great walks in the area. If my client likes animals, we could always take my dog to to the park, if that's something they would like to do! My love and interest of plants and gardening is also a skill I'd love to share, because it's so rewarding to see the results over time. I also know how to play tennis - I'm not very good but still love to play.
