I wanted a meaningful career and started working in the Ageing, Disability and Homecare sector for over 20 years. I love helping people from all works of life. I have a family of my own. Cooking and taking care of people are my strong key points. I began my carer as a Disability Support Worker in a group home, in Sydney. I transferred and worked in many group home. I was able to work with a lot different individuals over the years. It has always been a very forfilling role for me to fill my shoes in. It was never about the work. It was the people and the team I worked with. I have carried that over with me working for myself. Everyone has a story and I am always ready to listen and hear it.^& ^&I would be an array of card games with me. I would also bring in a ball. I would give the individual the option of what they would like to do first. I would ask the individual where could we play the card games or the best place to go kick a ball. Explain the rules for the card games. See if they were comfortable with just doing that together. I would reassure them that it would go for 15 minutes just to start off. Ask the individual if they had skills or hobbies they liked doing. Discuss what we would like to be doing next time.^&
