Why work with Like Family?
More than a cleaning job
As a support worker or cleaner, you won’t just help our Members wash the dishes, take out the bins or tidy their home — you’ll be helping them increase their independence and enjoy a high quality of life.
Choose your own adventure
Choose when you work, who you work with and the type of work you want to do. It’s that flexible.
A fair hourly wage across the board
Our domestic cleaners, who we call Social Carers, are paid a fair and competitive hourly rate to recognise the valuable work they do.
Here's how it works
Your online application starts with a little quiz at sign up. - Tell us about yourself
Once you’ve created an account (it only takes a few minutes), share a thing or two about you so we can get to know you. - Upload relevant documents
Depending on the work you want to do, you must provide certain documents for verification and participate in an online induction. Refer to the list below for more information. - You’re off!
Once you’re approved, you can begin applying for work and activities posted by our Members
What documents do I need for my onboarding?
You must provide the following documents before you can become a Social Carer:
1. ABN
Our Social Carers are self-employed. This means you’ll need a valid ABN and the right to work in Australia. Getting an ABN is free.
2. NDIS Worker Screening Check or Police Check
If you wish to support NDIS Members, you must obtain your NDIS Worker Screening Check first. Otherwise, you can provide a valid National Police Check.
3. Three reliable references
You’ll need to provide three references we can contact before we can approve your application. You may wish to nominate a colleague, employee or supervisor. They cannot be family members.
4. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
As a registered NDIS provider, our Social Carers are subject to all government mandates regarding COVID-19 vaccinations for aged care and disability support workers. You must be fully vaccinated according to your state government's requirements. Read our COVID-19 vaccination policy here.
5. COVID-19 Infection Control Module Certificate of Completion
This Department of Health module covers the fundamentals of infection prevention and control for COVID-19. It is mandatory for anyone who works in healthcare settings. Once you have attained the Certificate of Completion, it can be uploaded to your Social Carer account. Complete the COVID-19 Infection Control module.
6. 100 points of ID and right to work
Social Carers must be able to verify their identity and right to work in Australia by producing 100 points of identification upon request. Learn what documents can be accepted for identity verification.
The following documents are optional, but will allow you to apply for more jobs on our platform:
1. NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate of Completion
The NDIS Worker Orientation Module, "Quality, Safety and You", is a mandatory requirement to work with NDIS Members and only takes about 90 minutes to complete. It will give you a sound understanding of what it's like working in the industry and offer tips on how to become an excellent Social Carer. You can access it on the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission's website.
2. Working with Children Check/Blue Card
A growing number of our Members are under the age of 18. If you wish to work with them, you will need to upload a valid Working with Children Check (NSW/VIC/SA) or Blue Card (QLD).
3. Driver licence and vehicle registration details
About 30% of Activities posted on our platform involve transportation. If you wish to provide transport to Members, you must provide a clear photo or screenshot of your current driver's licence and the registration details of every vehicle you wish to use. You must also declare that the vehicle is appropriately insured and agree to the Like Family transport policy.
4. Supporting Safe and Enjoyable Meals Certificate of Completion
If you would like to support Members with meal preparation or cooking activities of any kind, please review and complete the Supporting Safe and Enjoyable Meals module created by the NDIS Commission. It provides information, scenarios and actions on reducing the risks associated with mealtimes.
What does the job involve?
You can pick and choose the domestic cleaning jobs that you are interested in and people you feel comfortable with.
