I'm a friendly and nurturing person and I grew up in a culture where the values of caring for each other, reliability, respect and hospitality were highly regarded. I do genuinely love meeting and learning about people and I enjoy researching and coming up with fun ideas for activities. My friends say I'm funny and have a good sense of humour :) I have my own lived experience of struggles with mental health, so I have a natural empathy and understanding of the challenges that can came up and how that can change our life path, away from the beaten path. I decided that in order to be fulfilled in my work, I needed to be of service, so I completed studies in mental health and then went on to become a Peer Support worker. And although I can see (and engage in) the merits of the western cultures approach to care, I am skewed towards eastern and natural therapies to assist in holistic care. (for example, the benefits of Yoga, grounding (walking barefoot) herbs, organic food, acupuncture etc.) I feel I'm naturally drawn towards seeing the strengths and gifts that other people have and I like to verbally acknowledge that and encourage exploration. I believe that if you can help to remind someone of, or see a strength…even one small positive, then you’ve got a starting point and from there you can encourage, support and baby steps can take you forward.^& ^&We could go to see a movie together! Let's choose a movie and cinema that feels comfortable for you to get to and organise exactly where to meet and at what time. After we buy our tickets...Wanna go to the candy bar? What snack's do you like? Once we've got our goodies let's head on in. Where do you like to sit? Ok great. Once we get out of the movie then perhaps we take a walk to discuss it, i'd love to hear your thoughts about what you liked or disliked about the movie. ^&
