I wanted to become a Social Carer because I enjoy being there for others and helping people. I think I will be good at it because I spent the first 35 years of my life not knowing why my brain seemed to be wired differently to everyone around me, I understand what its like to need social support, because I need it too! I cannot get out of my own way a lot of the time, BUT... I am GREAT at showing up for other people! Coming from a whole extended family of both diagnosed and undiagnosed neurodivergent people, I understand deeply that doing everyday tasks that seem "simple" can often be paralysing, I dont judge, am happy to help with tasks like tidying and cooking, and am a good body double. I'm also great at advocating for others in situations they feel they need support. Some of my hobbies include playing netball, going for walks, listening to music and podcasts, watching tv series, documentaries and some sports, and spending time with my kids and family. I am a neurodivergent Mum of 4 kids from young primary to late highschool ages- so most of my free time is spent watching junior netball/basketball/football games, and ferrying young people about! Most of my family are also neurodivergent, so I have lived experience of interacting with people who are autistic, have adhd, dyslexia, anxiety, and depression. I do not do drugs and rarely ever drink alcohol, but have lots of experience of people close to me with alcoholism and/or drug dependence. I am an accredited junior netball coach, and find an excellent rapport with most teenagers. I am also trained as a pregnancy and birth doula.
