I enjoy working with people and am passionate about people being able to be a part of a community and pursue their interests and passions. My first job out of school was Div 2 nursing, I did this for about 10 years, mostly in aged care, but felt very frustrated that there wasn't enough time to spend with the residents doing things that they wanted to do. So in 2011 I did a course in Activities and worked as a diversional therapist planning and doing activities in aged care. This was so rewarding. I enjoy teaching people new things especially how to sew. I have been told in the past that I'm a good teacher because I am patient, explain things slowly and allow the person to also learn by doing. I am a very good active listener. I have been through some hard times in life and lost loved ones so understand what it's like to deal with tough stuff.^& ^&I would discuss with the person what they wanted to sew and what they wanted to achieve. We could then go and buy the materials required or if money was an issue we could look around to see what we could repurpose. I would also be finding out what their skill level is to ascertain what they needed or wanted to learn. I would explain a step, show them and then get them to do it. I would always encourage and do it at their pace.^&
