I tend to gravitate towards people no matter what I do, I just enjoy learning about different people and cultures. I've had a long and varied career, and as a result I don't have any difficulty with having or holding a conversation and not very much shocks me. Listening has been a huge part of my life, whether it's the people I work with or for, or my children, and I see that skill being really important in a Social Carer's line of work. I've also got a statement of attainment in Counselling, and again that taught me the importance of not just hearing but really listening to what people are saying. My art therapy Diploma taught me not only to listen but the value of asking the right questions to ensure you're really hearing what the client is saying. ^& ^&Photography is something that is available to anyone that has a mobile phone these days, so very accessible though I prefer to use dedicated cameras. It teaches you to focus and concentrate and I've found can be almost a meditative tool. My attitude to art is similar, I see it as a tool to be used to help us find our way, so something as simple as a zentangle (elaborate doodle with repeating patterns) can open someone up to other forms of art and expression and take them places they didn't even realise they'd like to go. We had one lady in our art group, who was almost blind, but managed to create amazing art which made her and her family really happy. ^&
