I enjoy working with people and assisting them to live their lives to the fullest, and to achieve their goals and dreams. I originally have a fine arts and graphic design background and love to work with people sharing my creative interests. In more recent times I have changed my career and I worked as a volunteer in a community centre assisting an elderly men's social group, which I thoroughly enjoyed. At the same community centre I coordinated a multicultural mothers group which was a beautiful experience. Since moving to the Blue Mountains I have been working for Uniting Care for 4 years as a home and community care worker where I provide assistance and social support to elderly people to live an independent and dignified lifestyle in their own homes. I also worked in their day centres where we provided social support for groups of elderly people to engage in games, social outings, art and craft activities, exercises and yoga. I have had a lot of experience working with people with dementia and I am particularly interested in therapeutic activities such as art therapy and nature based therapy, since I have seen first hand the rewards and benefits for the clients. I am very active and athletic and enjoy bushwalking and nature which I enjoy sharing with other people. My other passions are cycling, kayaking and rock climbing, and have had experience teaching and supervising groups of young people in the climbing gym and outside. I also am a keen gardener and am very interested in plants which is something I find that I share with many of my older clients in the Blue Mountains who all love their gardens. ^& ^&I have a client who loves gardening and plants. When we are together we talk about gardening and share our passion for flowers. I often assist her with weeding and pruning and we often just wander through her garden and appreciating the beauty. I have taken her to open gardens in the Blue Mountains where we go for walks and have a cup of coffee in a café afterwards. I also do activities with dementia patients such as painting, and I had a lovely dementia patient for many years for respite who I would take on lovely country drives and reminisce over things he remembered from his youth. When I coordinated the mutli-cultural mothers group we quickly realised that even thought we were all from different cultural backgrounds, we all enjoyed cooking and food. Therefore I organised to have a "bring along a plate" day once a month where we would all share our favourite foods and enjoy learning about one another's cultures.^&
