I have been on a job search in the area of support work and being an aspiring Paramedic I am drawn to work in a position where I am able to help others. Upon coming across Like Family on indeed I was able to see the values and principles by which this organisation ran and see that those align with my own. I am keen to work in an environment where a person-centred-service is a vital step in the mission statement as well as maximising a clients’ freedom to do what they want and providing them with high quality of life. I was attracted to apply for this position as I am confident my expertise in Paramedicine will translate into the support sector and I will be able to provide a holistic service with respect, trust and professionalism. Furthermore, I believe I will benefit from this job not only professionally but as an individual which in turn will prove an asset to the team. I trust that I have gained a deep understanding of a healthcare workers duty of care and believe this can be viewed as values, relationships and behaviours that are building blocks of trust to the patient/public. My knowledge around person-centred-service begins with establishing a good partnership between a patient and social carer where a patient’s preferences, needs and values are at the highest importance in the decision-making process yet the social carer demonstrates their knowledge and skills recognising, yet not exploiting, the power imbalance. I appreciate each patient is a different individual who comes with a different set of needs. Listening, awareness and discussion are all vital to a workers’ communication with both the patient and family.^& ^&Upon research I am aware household management is part of working in this sector and believe my skills having worked as a kitchen hand for 3 years give me experiences in this domain involving cooking as well as cleaning that can prove beneficial. Following on, as a retired elite athlete I have gained valuable experience in personal responsibility and understand that working hard and smart is one of the keys to accomplishing tasks successfully. I appreciate giving things a go and being involved in new hobbies however I also think my skills can translate into domestic duties such as laundry, shopping and social assistance. Finally, I am happy to provide quality personal care aiding in showering, grooming and toileting; and believe my knowledge in Paramedicine allows a high standard of nursing care and capabilities. ^&
