Community matters to me. In 2017 I became a volunteer with an organisation called Rough Edges in Kings Cross / Darlinghurst (fortnightly Sunday evenings). Rough Edges (or Roughies) is a 'lounge room' is a safe place providing food, access to social services and a place to connect for disadvantaged and/or homeless individuals. Our patrons come in all shapes and sizes, many with complex needs/conditions and I have both enjoyed and grown from this community connection. I am still some years away from retirement and began to think about how I could support others in our community whilst earning an income. I am social, love a yarn and a chat, and find myself connecting with those in my neighbourhood or at the local shopping centre who look a little sad or alone. I just like people and believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to connect, socialise and be safe. My number one passion is family (I have two sensational young adult children - and I am the youngest of seven). I enjoy volunteering (as in with Roughies above, as well as some support to Deakin Connect (supporting Afghani refugees) and UNSW (as a career mentor for young graduates). I also like to create (painting, cooking and gardening), as well as keep healthy (a leisurely walk and an ocean swim) I think I would be described as good natured, caring and nurturing....
