About

Community and connection matters to me. I have experienced and seen the importance of community support and connection with aging parents and siblings, and a range of challenges experienced by my siblings and many (20+) nieces and nephews (anxiety, autism, intellectual impairment, ADHD and others). Since 2017 I have been a a volunteer with an organisation called Rough Edges in Darlinghurst. Rough Edges (or Roughies) is a 'lounge room' providing food, access to social services, a yarn, scrabble or cards, and is quite simply a place to connect. Our patrons come in all shapes and sizes, many with complex mental health and physical needs/conditions and I have both enjoyed and grown from this community connection. With that experience, and being later in my working life, I began to think about how I could support others in our community and found my way here. I am social, love a yarn and a chat, and find myself connecting with those in my neighbourhood or at the local shopping centre who look a little sad or alone. I like people and believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to connect, socialise and be safe. My number one passion is family (I have two sensational young adult children - and I am the youngest of seven). I enjoy volunteering (as in with Roughies above, as well as some support to Deakin Connect (supporting Afghani refugees) and UNSW (as a career mentor for young graduates). I like to - create (painting, cooking and gardening) - I am no master, - be handy (assemble toys/equipment, hang pictures, basic repairs) - I am not an electrician, - compete (cards, jenga, ball games, computer games) - I generally lose, - keep healthy (walk, bike ride, swim) - I won't make the olympics, - be entertained (music, movie or a read) - I'm not a movie star, - learn and discover (galleries, museums, bush walks) - so much to see. I am good natured, caring and nurturing, and I am mature, calm, resilient and sensitive.
