Ever since a young age I have always been a caring and helping soul. I was then given the opportunity when I was 21 to work in a Special needs camp in America. During my time there it was obvious from the start that helping people is where I belong, and I enjoyed every second. I worked with a mix of adults and children with a range of different disabilities, and not only did I support them with personal care, but ensuring they were able to engage in all activities presented to them. I enjoyed it so much I returned a year later and was the recreation teacher. I was my role to plan and delivery activities to campers both with mental and physical needs and to ensure the lessons were planned to their capabilities. Working at camp was just beginning for me and it confirmed to be that this is the future career path I would like to take, being able to adapt the world for the person for them to be able to partake in activities like everyone else was the biggest motivator for me. I think since a young age I have been good at being a support worker, due to having the genuine care and interest in supporting and helping others. I have great satisfaction in putting people before myself and witnesses' enjoyment from them. I am patient, kind and have a non-judgemental attitude. Caring for others comes easy for me, which I have been fortunate enough to witness from my loving upbringing. I have been fortunate and ambitions enough to travel the world since a young age. I have always had a ' go getter ', ' can do' attitude, wanting to experience all that I can in life. No only have I travelled for leisure, I have volunteered both in Thailand and Ghana as an English teacher. While in Ghana I also was boxing training with the African boxing team and taught street children how to box in the evenings. Once the children knew an English girl was in town they quickly found out where I was residing and they often come to knock for me to play games, such as table tennis and soccer. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my partner, my friends and family to enjoy socialising and enjoy nice food together. I often attend theatre shows, bush walks and any other entertainment I find online. I spent time in the gym boxing, weight training and running. In my down time, I enjoy watching documentaries on Netflix. In terms of my skills, I feel communication is paramount. I feel my life experiences and my work experiences I have built up great communication skills to communicate with different people from different walks of life. I am able to communicate verbally and non-verbally for those in need and with people from different cultures. I am empathetic and have the ability to be able to calm a person down in stressful and traumatic situations. I am able to actively listen to people to be able to understand what they are saying to be so that I know the most appropriate way to respond. I am an organised person who is aware of all appointments, shifts and work load. I understand the importance of being on time and being punctual for my shifts and all my person appointments. This goes hand in hand with people able to be part of a team. Since young I have played in team sports and was captain for Tottenham Hostpur women's soccer team. This taught me the importance of team moral, supporting those within your team and providing constructive criticism. I am a motivated person, who has a love for life and passions for helping others. While in the UK I studied a national diploma in public services, which included module such as mental health, ages care, etc and then i continued my studies and obtain a degree in Criminology and Psychology. In the UK I worked as a corrections officer in a juvenile setting. during my time here I gained experience and knowledge in working with young people. This then enabled me to work as a youth worker here in Australia. When I moved here in 2015, I was sponsored as a Support worker full time, which enabled me to get my PR and citizenship. In 2022, I then fulfilled my long-life dream of becoming an NSW Police Officer. Which has enabled me to use all my skills I have learnt over the years and adapt them into this role. I am currently still a Police officer, and my shift patterns is 4 days on and 6 days off, therefore I have plenty of spare time to go back to being a support worker, which I have done all my life and miss. During my time as a Police Officer officer, I have obtained a degree in Policing and been able to manage and deal with many stressful, dangerous but also some rewarding situations. In particular, I have helped those shrugging from extensive mental health issues, and at times been the person to save their life. Recently I have worked with a NDIS participants who I Planned a European cruise for and assisted him on for Two weeks in total. Additionally, I have planned other activities for participants such as weekends away, shows, sporting events and much more. Over the time I have obtained certificates in medication administration, behaviour management, manual handling, food preparation and more.
