I am currently working in aged care as a specialized dementia carer. This care home has a diverse range of people with all different types and levels of dementia with different care needs. I absolutely love my job and enjoy doing what I do. I have a great bond with all my residents. Each time I come onto shift, I always get a hello from my residents and a hug from some. In my job, whilst using great time management, I do the cooking, cleaning, medications, personal care and life engagement. My team worker and I always go out of our way to do extra activities with our residents such as arts and crafts and dancing. I have been working as a dementia carer for just over 3 years and have also received a recognition reward from my workplace for putting the mission into action. I am a kind, caring and patient person who always listens and puts others needs above my own. ^& ^&Using crafts as an example; I always make extra time at my current work place to do Arts and Crafts with my residents. Recently, my team worker and I created a wreathe for Anzac day. The wreathe was made up of hand prints from each resident (15). The residents also helped us by creating leaves and flowers as decoration for around the cottage. Depending on their level of dementia, they are happy to help cut, glue and paint with us. Breaking down each step with some crafts can help guide the residents to complete their project by themselves or with minimal help. This is something we do on a regular basis with our residents especially on special events. They love seeing the decorations and crafts hung up around the cottage.^&
