About

Being raised as a mormon, with my father as the local bishop, I was always out in the community, helping those in need and holding positions of leadership in my local church group from the age of 8. Having served a two year volunteer mission for my church, I was able to nurture and develop my respectful listening, speaking and empathising skill set. I have since then, had a wonderful career in the food industry, consulting for over 50 premium boutique food groups and helping them grow from a back yard operation to supplying national chains and export. One of the most enjoyable experiences in my private consulting, has been in growing teams and creating a team culture for these businesses. I have developed a high level of interpersonal and communication skills and are now looking forward to returning to a more one on one service based engagement with people in need, as opposed to a corporate model of chasing sales. Although I have left mormonism, I have a yearning to make a shift towards a career aimed at helping people directly, as I did more in my childhood and young adult years. ^& ^&Music I have found music a powerful tool in sharing the love of music with others. I enjoy learning new music and often ask people what their favourite song is. I learn the song quite quickly and we often being singing the song. I then either show the person how to play the song on the guitar or piano or how to play a congo or bongo, or simply tap along to the song. I also love harmonies and singing with another person who knows the harmony is a wonderful way to share my musical skills. For those who have an affinity with music, I have a love of poetry and lyrics and often can extract ideas and thoughts of others and shape it into a song within 20-30 minutes. We then record it on the iPhone and share that as a precious memory and motivation to further write, create, sing and find peace, meaning and purpose in music. Listening and strategising In my consulting role, I have developed the tools required to taken an idea or a dream and create tools to shape a way to bring that dream in to a reality. I have a template of create an information gathering instrument that others can use to help them shape what their dream would look like in their life, validate the consistent motivation and desire to achieve this goal and then using the SMART goals, develop strategies to make these goals become measurable and achievable. Using tools of how to create a team to help you accomplish your goals are key. I love helping people create a team of mentors, supporters and guides to help keep them accountable in accomplishing their goal. This is something I love doing and have successfully helped many people accomplish their goals such as quitting smoking, taking their food product from their kitchen to securing millions of people putting their food in shopping trolleys (and then their tummies) developing award winning food products, developing brand narratives that advocates for things that they value and cherish, developing confidence to asking someone out on a date and losing 20kg within 3 months. Measuring and reporting I grew up with Pearsons law being something that was a family favourite: “When performance is measured, performance improves. When performance is measured and reported back, the rate of improvement accelerates.” This let to an appreciation of reporting and measuring. Something that has helped me develop a unique and reputable consulting service. One thing that I love teaching people, is how to using these tools with simple spreadsheets to create graphs that track their progression and how to use technologies to share their progress with others, tapping into the powerful motivating force that the commitment to measuring and reporting brings. Confidence in self and valuing others My personal life values are to view others as someone that views the world in a way that holds a pearl of wisdom for me. I subsequently engage in a very open and confident way. I regard strangers as friends that I haven't met yet and I love to engage using various unique and authentic 'ice breakers' with individuals. This very specific skill set, paired with my love of measuring and data analysis is something that I find as a useful teaching tool to use with others, by asking their thoughts of certain interactions or simply conversations I have with others. I always try to start a stimulating conversation and bring others into the conversation. Having a fruitful conversation with others is a wonderful tool to help with confidence and keeps life interesting. Thinking My father was an industrial designer and I grew up with all of the Edward Debono books in our house. I was able to attend. Debono created the term ‘lateral thinking’ and is known for someone that created tools to develop ‘thinking’ as a skill in and of itself. I often use a number of these thinking skills in fun ways when engaging with people. I sometimes say, ‘lets do a PMI on this train’. PMI is an acronym which means ‘positive, minus and interesting. We then go back and forth and expand the lens of the thing that we are talking about. Other thinking tools are OPV (other peoples views), EBS (examine both sides), ADI (agreement, disagreement, irrelevance), CAO (clarify aims and objectives). These are useful tools when discussing any perception or feeling that we have. I have found this very useful in teaching youth classes, when a student says something like ‘I wish I never had to go to school’ or ‘I hate school’. Sometimes I take a vote on who agrees. After going through these thinking tools, we take another vote and these opinions often changes. The power of observing neuro plasticity in action is a powerful thinking tool. ^&
