Hello, my name is Clare For over 25 years, I have worked in the disability/aged sector. I have extensive experience and knowledge that is vast and every day I am learning something new. I feel with the experience that I have this have given me knowledge and understanding of whats required to be a social carer. I have over my time supported many and varied people and always treating the individual as one size does not fit all. As a Disability Support Worker, groups and individual support is very familiar to me. The NDIS navigation process and implementation was part of my last position. Assistance in participant’s choices was one part I really enjoyed – it gave them back their own control. Over the last 2 years I have been working and running my own business as an Independent Support Working in the Disability/ Mental Health sector, I work with individual participants choices and day to day needs, this has been a very successful career move. In my spare time, I love to drink coffee, Walking, community volunteering, horse riding when I can, and travel are big passions of mine along with a newly acquired boat which I’m hoping to spend lots of time on fishing. ^& ^&Having the initial conversation with the Individual is always the starting point as its about choice and control. I have recently organised an evening for my participant to attend a concert at a local Performing Arts centre which was on her wish list and had been for quiet awhile. I needed to liaise with her house staff regarding any additional information that I would need to ensure the evening would be a success. I then organised a taxi (wheelchair) and booked the tickets and the date was set. The house staff hadn't mentioned that I was coming to take her out, when I arrived participant was so excited that she was going out that she burst into tears as someone was taking the time to go out with her. The evening was fantastic and the excitement from my participant was just delightful and heartfelt, and really made a huge impact on me. It was such an easy evening to organise and will definitely stay with me as the joy this gave was immeasurable. ^&
