About

My passion stems from the values imbued into me by my parents. My parents brought up my siblings and I to never turn a blind eye on someone genuinely in need of any kind of help we are able to provide. My mother, especially, lived by her principles and so it was easy to learn from her by observation rather than by words. I remember how I wouldn't let them rest at one time over my obsession to help out a widow living next door who could not afford her rent. I was so glad they helped out eventually. And once I gained more independence, I have always done my best to help those I find undergoing one challenge or another. My core values, instilled by my parents, and the fulfilment I experience from helping others drive my passion to continue to be a source of support to people.^& ^&I strive to continuously learn new things and skills, knowing they directly impact the quality of my contributions or support. I continuously work to improve my communication skills, recognizing its importance in understanding people's needs and providing support. For instance, regarding the experience I provided earlier about my friend who unknowingly became a victim of substance abuse, I had to communicate clearly with her, displaying empathy and understanding, and making sure to keep away blame. I helped her build her communication skills as well, teaching her to express herself respectfully but firmly to build positive relationships with others. If, for instance, I work at a local community centre and I notice some people do not communicate their needs effectively, I would decide to organize a communication skills workshop to empower them by building their communication skills. I will discuss this plan with my team at the centre to gain their support and more insights on how to better achieve it. I would work with my team to gain insights from the community members on specific areas of communication (such as assertiveness or non-verbal communication) where they are having challenges and tailor the workshop towards these areas. As a team, we would also provide on-to-one support and gather feedback to help determine the success of the workshop.^&
