About

I have been looking into various jobs that would broaden my experiences within a hospital setting and being a social carer would be beneficial for me. I believe that being a Social Carer would be beneficial for my future career within NSW healthcare, as a future doctor, in that I would experience one-on-one communication with individuals to improve my compassion and empathy towards others. As such, my own professional experience if I get accepted to this job would highly contribute to my effectiveness when I complete my degree in Medicine. When I completed my Clinical Placements in Ronald McDonald House while doing my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (Honours), I was deeply invested in providing service to individuals and retaining as much experience as possible so that it would inform my future occupation of working in healthcare. By continuing this path, and continuing to enhance my experience, I believe that this job as a social carer would greatly improve my effectivity and contribution within a healthcare system. To share one of my skills and hobbies with someone in the community, I would firstly try and develop some form of rapport with the individual. In that way, I would be able to develop an individualised approach that would be suitable for the person to ensure that that person and myself would maintain rapport. For example, getting to know an individual includes asking their personal preferences, what activities they would like to do or what they do not like to do. After understanding what his/her preferences are, I would then develop activities that would be suitable for that person (i.e. if the person wants to exercise together by strolling, then we shall exercise together by strolling) to ensure that the person I am caring for knows that my entire purpose is to ensure his wellbeing and that his needs are met. This ensures that we maintain that positive rapport, so that they may enjoy their time with me whilst ensuring we finish activities that are needed to be done.
