I have always been the empathetic and understanding friend who listens to everyone, comprehends their perspectives and offers encouragement in the most appropriate way. Being born and raised in Australia while immersed in Taiwanese and Asian culture, I have developed cross-cultural skills, respect and compassion for all demographics of people in society. I am the middle child of three which has made me appreciate the care provided to me and consequently, encouraged me to provide care and nurture for others. Throughout my life, I have been surrounded by lots of younger kids but even more elderly people so I have become quite understanding of their behaviour and thoughts. Throughout this past year, especially due to COVID, both younger and older family and friends have disclosed to me that they often feel lonely, living their lives aimlessly. I have also been in similar situations as them and sympathise with this void in their life. This has made me want to reach out and help others with their lives and well-being hence why I am wanting to become a social carer - to provide and contribute my compassion to society in any way possible. I am willing to share my hobbies to people simply by showcasing, accompanying and explaining my interests in it. According to the feedback or response, I would encourage them to try out my hobby alongside me. For example, my passion in piano playing could be showcased to someone in the community. If they find interest in it, I would encourage them to come to piano concerts with me or accompany them in listening to piano music.
